Tesse is the collaborative project of Sydney based singer-songwriter Tom Stephens.
With a sound characterised by frigid, full-toned ebbs of acoustic and baritone guitar, stitched together by steady, hypnotic rhythms, Tesse released their debut full-length album How It All Unfolds in June, 2018.
How It All Unfolds was recorded and mixed entirely in analogue over six days in the winter of 2017 at Sound Recordings Studios in rural Victoria. The record was engineered by Alex Bennett (C.W. Stoneking, Ballpark Music), self-produced by the band and mastered by Joe Carra (Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard). By recording live without click tracks and utilising the natural acoustics of the studio’s setting, Tesse have created a debut record that is raw, layered and introspective.
Thematically, the record can be understood as sonic rumination on change, and a confrontation of the impermanence of all things.
